Because I have been so impressed with the free Cutline Theme from Chris Pearson. I’ve decided to release 10 header photographs for the theme under the Creative Commons Attribution/Non-Commercial License. You are free to use any of these images for your blog or website if you properly attribute Captain Hops with a link back to http://www.captainhops.com somewhere in your theme. You may not sell these images or claim them as your own work.
Click on the small banner to see the full size version. I have cropped the full size images to 770 pixels wide by 140 pixels high to match the default in the Cutline theme, but you can use these images in any theme you want. The Cutline Theme website has good instructions for customizing your header images and adding random header images. Be sure to check them out.
Please leave me comments and bookmark this page if you enjoy these banner images. If the response is good, I hope to release many more in the future. Let me know if you have any questions or requests.
Cheers!

Very cool… I’ll make sure Chris sees this!
yeah thank for these lovely pic,
but i have some difficulty when i want to edit my logo, when i crop the picture, the quality become very worst,
is there limited size or what is the best original picture to edit? 770*140 or bigger…
thank for ur help
The pictures above are thumbnails. If you click them, a full 770 x 140 image will open in its own window. Download the larger image to your local hard drive by right-clicking and selecting “Save Image As” or “Save Picture As”. You should then be able to add your title or logo in any graphics program.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
this truly is a great theme. have you found what advertising works best on this theme? lemme know!
@Brad - I haven’t done much with advertising with this theme yet, I am still trying to decide where the content is going to take me.
I like the way I integrated the Google link ads under the header, but I don’t have enough visitors to know if it is effective yet. On other websites, I have found that both horizontal and vertical link ads can be very effective. I have also had some success embedding a block of Google Adsense in the post or between the post and the comments. Generally, I find a tower in the sidebar to be least effective.
You will have to experiment to see what works best for your site with your audience.
Good Luck!
Fan of Cutline as well. How did you integrate the Google links under the header?
@kevin - I don’t want to assume anything, so if you don’t have one, then sign up for an Adsense account. You get the code for Adsense from them.
I don’t know if my method is the best, but to integrate the 728×15 Link Ad unit, I made some adjustments to the CSS and header.php. Specifically, I changed the style for #header_img to
margin: 0 ; border-bottom: 1px solid #000; float: left; clear: both;and then created a new class ID called #header_links and gave it the stylemargin: 0 0 30px 0; border-bottom: 1px solid #000; float: left; clear: both; width:770px; background: #000; text-align:center;.I then edited header.php by adding the adsense code wrapped in a div tag with the id #header_links.
It would probably be easiest to look at the html for this page to see the code. On IE you click “View” > “Source”. On Firefox click “Edit” > “Page Source”. You can see the CSS here.
Hi Captain,
Good idea! Love the final image.
When I try right-clicking and then Save Target As on the larger image, I get an error message: Internet Explorer cannot download from self.close().
Suggestions?
Thx,
Sheila
@Sheila - On Internet Explorer, right-click and select “Save Picture As” and not “Save Target As”
Thanks for the info on advertising Kevin. I’ll check somethings out and let you know what I come up with. People are getting pretty savvy when it comes to filtering out ads… I wonder what is going to come up over the next horizon?
Ohmigosh, I can’t believe I was doing “Target” instead of “Picture”. Clearly there are too many PDFs in my life, and not enough pictures.
Cheers!
Sheila
Thanks, these are nice!
Those are great images! Thanks for giving them away. I think the sky one is particularly useful because it’ll be easy to layer text on it.
Thank you! I just started blogging with Wordpress this week, and the banner works beautiful with the title of my blog…
[...] I’ve been making some more small changes to the look of my site. I really like the Cutline theme, and there is a lot of useful information at its web site. The latest two changes I have made are the Google ads in the header image and the site map, both of which you can see at the top. I still have to replace the header pictures with some of my own, maybe with some randomization thrown in. [...]
I just started using Cutline today, and I came across your blog with these fantastics images. Thanks, so much for your work and for sharing them so graciously…
Thank you so much. I have added one of your fabulous pics to my blog, and because I am very new to blogging, could you tell me how to attribute it to you… and how to do a link back.
Sorry for my naievite, and thanks for any assistance that you can provide.
Hi Kaoteni,
I am glad you like the images. If you are familiar with html you can add a link to http://www.captainhops.com in the footer.
Since it sounds like you are not, then you have several other options. If you use Wordpress, then you have the option of using Widgets or Links in your sidebar. Both of these tools are built into Wordpress and make it is easy to add links to your blog even if you don’t know html. Blogger and other blogging software should have similar features.
If none of these options are available to you, you can simply write a post announcing your entry into the world of blogging and thanking all the little people that helped to get you started. I am happy to be one of the little people.
Cheers!
Thanks so much!
Thanks for the images.
I’ve added a link back.
